5th Trees Competition: poetry, short stories and design

Spring, Art and Awareness: Discover the Exhibition of the 5th ‘Árboles’ Competition in Guadix
Spring suits Guadix down to the ground. With the arrival of fine weather, the contrasts of our landscape are brought into sharp relief: the deep green of the fertile plain, the ochre of our clay architecture and the warm light that bathes the horizon of the Geopark. It’s the perfect time for a stroll, but also to immerse yourself in Guadix’s vibrant cultural calendar.
So, if you’re visiting us at the end of April, we have the perfect plan that combines environmental commitment, young talent and the charm of our historic centre: the exhibition of the 5th Trees Competition 2026. In this article, we’ll tell you why this exhibition is the ideal stop to round off your guided tour of the city.
A tribute to nature through the eyes of young people
Next Monday, 27 April at 8.00 pm, the Guil Cultural Contemporáneo venue opens its doors to launch one of the most heart-warming and important exhibitions of the year.
The 5th Trees Competition is not a conventional art exhibition. It is a project that promotes environmental education through the creativity of schoolchildren and young people from Guadix and the surrounding area. Through poetry, storytelling and design, the younger generations tackle issues crucial to our present and future: the importance of trees, environmental protection, traditional agriculture and the culture of peace.
As tour guides who love and showcase the natural and architectural heritage of Guadix on a daily basis, we are thrilled to see how the youngest members of our community express their respect for the environment we inhabit. It is a unique opportunity to discover the spirit of the region from a fresh and authentic perspective.
An opening ceremony full of rhythm and surprises
If you’re lucky enough to be in Guadix on the day of the opening (27 April), a very special evening awaits you. The event will be a treat not only for the eyes but also for the ears, as it will feature live musical accompaniment by Pilar Pacheco (@pilaar.pacheco). The talented singer, pianist and composer will provide the soundtrack to an evening dedicated to culture.
What’s more, during the event there will be a very special treat for attendees: a prize draw for the artwork ‘Primavera’, a beautiful watercolour that won a previous competition. Can you imagine taking home a little piece of local art as a souvenir of your trip?
The perfect plan: a guided tour and an afternoon at the gallery
The Guil Cultural Contemporáneo gallery is located at the central Plaza de Pachecos, 3, just a stone’s throw from the city’s main monuments. This makes the exhibition the ideal way to round off an afternoon of sightseeing.
Our suggestion is simple: book your guided tour with us to discover the secrets of the Cathedral, the history of our squares and the charm of the traditional neighbourhoods. Once the tour is over, pop into the gallery, enjoy the local art and grab some tapas in the surrounding area.
