Music: Guadix Clásica 2026

The XXXIV edition of Guadix Clásica is here, the International Music Cycle that turns Guadix into one of the classical music capitals of Andalusia every summer. From June 12 to July 17, 2026, eight world-class concerts will take place across the city’s most unique spaces: the Cathedral, the Villalegre Palace, the Sugar Factory (Azucarera), the Church of Santiago, the Constitution Square, the Julio Visconti Foundation, and the Mira de Amescua Theater.
This edition’s artistic focus centers on Manuel de Falla and Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, two names that connect Guadix with the most brilliant history of Spanish culture. From Quo Wadis Tours, your premier company for guided tours in Guadix, we encourage you to experience this extraordinary week and discover the city that makes such a festival possible.

What is Guadix Clásica: More Than Three Decades of Excellence
To fully comprehend the scale of Guadix Clásica, one must look at the ground we walk upon. Guadix is not just a town; it is one of the oldest human settlements on the Iberian Peninsula. From the Roman Julia Gemella Acci, through the splendor of the Andalusi Wadi-As, to the breathtaking Renaissance and Baroque city, every era has left an indelible mark on its layout. The festival was born with a bold premise: to allow the city itself, with its ancient layering of cultures, to act as an immense sounding board.
When the chords of a symphony orchestra fill the Cathedral of the Incarnation, the Church of Santiago, the Constitution Square, or the Villalegre Palace, it does more than offer an unparalleled acoustic experience: it highlights and celebrates Andalusia’s architectural heritage in a way no museum ever could. Music inhabits these spaces and transforms them. That is the essence of Guadix Clásica.
“The city of Guadix itself, with its millenary history, is our grand concert hall.”
Over more than thirty years, the stages of Guadix Clásica have hosted iconic figures who are part of music history: Vicente Amigo, Jordi Savall, Ara Malikian, Leo Brouwer, Pablo Heras-Casado, Estrella Morente, José Mercé, Marina Heredia, Mariola Cantarero, Tomatito, Ainhoa Arteta, and dozens more. Renowned orchestras such as the Frankfurt Philharmonic, the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, the City of Granada Orchestra, the National Philharmonic of Cuba, or the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra have resonated among the historic stones of this city. An extraordinary heritage that positions Guadix Clásica among the most relevant classical music festivals in Andalusia.
The XXXIV Edition: Falla, Alarcón, and the Voice of the Territory
This 2026 edition arrives loaded with meaning. The artistic core centers around Manuel de Falla, as part of his 150th anniversary celebration (#falla150), and Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, the Guadix-born novelist and journalist who gave Spanish literature some of its finest pages. These two figures connect Guadix to the pinnacle of Spanish culture and serve as a guiding thread for a lineup that seamlessly blends early, classical, symphonic, flamenco, and chamber music.
Furthermore, this edition reinforces the festival’s social dimension with two charity concerts: one to benefit Manos Unidas and another tied to the Red Cross Gold Lottery (Sorteo de Oro). A commitment that demonstrates artistic excellence and community engagement are not only compatible but vital.

“Guadix does not just host musical excellence: it creates it. This creative capacity is no coincidence; our city has art encoded in its genetic makeup.”
Guadix: The City That Makes Such a Festival Possible
There are few cities in Andalusia capable of offering a Renaissance cathedral, a noble palace, a Mudéjar church, a beautifully restored old industrial sugar factory, and a historic main square as stages for a classical music festival—all within less than a square kilometer. Guadix can. And that exact uniqueness is what makes Guadix Clásica an unrepeatable festival.
Yet Guadix is more than just a stage; it is a breeding ground for talent. The city that gave rise to the Golden Age playwright Antonio Mira de Amescua, the Andalusi scholar Ibn Tufail, the Baroque sculptor Torcuato Ruiz del Peral, and the novelist Pedro Antonio de Alarcón continues to foster its own musical talent: Pablo Gálvez, José Luis Morillas, Víctor Cruz, Yamila Pedrosa, and a brilliant generation of local musicians who enrich the festival program from within.
Guadix Clásica also stands as a pillar of strength in Granada’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2031. A festival of these characteristics, sustained for over thirty years with the backing of the Guadix Town Council and the Provincial Council of Granada, alongside the support of the Junta de Andalucía and the Primaflor Foundation, proves that cultural excellence is not the exclusive property of major metropolitan capitals.
