The exhibition “Alice’s Adventures Under Ground. History of a Tale” arrives in Guadix through the collaboration of the City Council and the Provincial Council of Granada. Inaugurated on Tuesday, May 5th, in the exhibition hall of the Mira de Amescua Theatre, the show can be visited free of charge until May 26, 2026, as part of the World Book Day celebrations. A unique opportunity to discover the intimate and surprising origin of Lewis Carroll’s most famous tale.

What is the exhibition about?

“Alice’s Adventures Under Ground. History of a Tale” traces, through photographs, documents, and bibliographic editions, the surprising journey of a story born almost as a game. That tale improvised by Lewis Carroll for a young girl named Alice Liddell during a boat trip on the Thames would eventually become one of the most influential works in world literature.

Beyond its documentary value, the exhibition invites us to rediscover the origin of this classic from an intimate and human perspective, reminding us that even the greatest works are sometimes born from a simple act of imagination.

“That tale improvised by Lewis Carroll for Alice Liddell would eventually become one of the most influential works in world literature.”
