The municipality of La Peza travels back to the year 1810 to commemorate one of the most heroic episodes in its history during the Peninsular War.
The reenactment pays tribute to Manuel Atienza, the “Alcalde Carbonero” (Charcoal Burner Mayor), and to the brave defense mounted by the local residents against the Napoleonic army.
Date: August 22nd.
The event takes place in the streets of the municipality of La Peza, where hundreds of residents participate to depict the historical events that gave rise to the famous phrase: “I am the town of La Peza, which dies before surrendering.”
