Marquesado Theatre Festival 2026

44 years of history. 44 editions of live theatre under the stars of the Marquesado del Zenete. From July 28 to August 7, 2026, the Waniya Theatre in Huéneja hosts the most special edition to date of the Marquesado Theatre Festival, one of the longest-running and most cherished amateur theatre festivals in Andalusia. Ten amateur theatre groups, eleven performance nights, side activities for the whole family, and a closing gala with live music. All in the heart of the Granada Geopark, at the foothills of the northern face of Sierra Nevada.
44 editions of theatre in the Marquesado del Zenete
The Marquesado Theatre Festival is not just another festival. It is a living institution that has been bringing together the towns of the Marquesado del Zenete around theatre for four decades. Amateur theatre groups from Dólar, Jérez del Marquesado, Huéneja, Cogollos de Guadix, Aldeire, Lanteira, Albuñán, Alquife, and La Calahorra take the stage every summer to prove that theatre is not just for professionals, but for entire communities that want to tell stories.
This 44th edition champions environmental values as a common thread: caring for and respecting the environment, adopting sustainable habits, and protecting ecosystems to guarantee a healthy planet for present and future generations. A message that is especially meaningful in such a privileged setting as the Marquesado del Zenete, located within the UNESCO-recognized Granada Geopark.

A unique setting: the Marquesado del Zenete
The Marquesado Theatre Festival cannot be understood without the territory that hosts it. The Marquesado del Zenete is a region of small villages, rich history, and breathtaking landscapes extending along the foothills of Sierra Nevada’s northern face, inside the UNESCO-recognized Granada Geopark. A territory that has known how to build community through culture, finding its most genuine expression in this festival.
Huéneja, the host town for this edition, is one of those places proving that size doesn’t matter when there is passion and commitment. The Waniya Theatre, its performing venue, becomes every summer one of the most magical open-air theatres in Andalusia: the sky of the Marquesado as its roof, the stars as a backdrop, and the audiences from local towns as the main characters of a unique collective celebration.
