About Quo Wadis — English

Where are you going? That is the question that inspired our name (Quo Vadis),

and for us, the answer is always clear: To Guadix!

From the fusion of the Latin question ‘Quo Vadis’ (Where are you going?) and the ancient Arabic name for Guadix, ‘Wadi Ash’, Quo Wadis is born.

In Arabic, Wadi (وادي) means “riverbed,” the place where water flows when it rains.

And perhaps that is why it fits so perfectly with who we are.

Because Guadix is also a riverbed.
Not just of water, but of time.
A territory slowly shaped by the cultures that inhabited it, by the hands that built it, and by the stories that still pulse within it.

If you walk slowly, you can feel it:
In the reddish earth.
In the silence of the caves.
In every corner that seems to hold more than meets the eye.

From that way of looking, Quo Wadis is born.
It is not just a name; it is a way of accompanying you.
An invitation to follow that riverbed, to walk in the footsteps of the past, and to discover how they remain alive in the present.

Because it is not just about knowing where you are going, but understanding where you are passing through.

Our Philosophy: A bridge to the essence of Guadix

Quo Wadis is—and strives to be—a bridge.
A bridge between heritage and those who visit it,
between the history that precedes us and the curious eyes that arrive,
between the earth that sustains us and the people who wish to understand it.

We were born in love with Guadix:
with its silent magic, its ancient corners,
and its unique way of telling time in clay and stone.
And from that love, our vocation is born: to translate the city, to bring it closer, to make it understandable and accessible to anyone who wants to discover it.

We know that traveling is not just about seeing, but feeling.
That is why we shy away from monotonous speeches. We want you to:

Feel at home: Our approach is warm, friendly, and adapted to your pace. We want you to say goodbye at the end of the tour as a friend, not just as a client.

Feel the history: From the Roman theater and the cathedral, to the clay labyrinth of our Cave District (Barrio de las Cuevas).

Connect with the local culture: We will share the legends, the everyday anecdotes, and those little details that never make it into traditional travel guides.

The mission of Quo Wadis

is to connect you with the essence of Guadix. We act as a living bridge that interprets its history, its culture, and its clay earth, guiding your gaze so that you don’t just visit the city, but understand it, feel it, and discover the true meaning of the place you are passing through.

Who walks with you

Behind Quo Wadis is me, Isabel, an official tour guide and deeply passionate about Guadix. I have spent years walking these streets of reddish earth, studying its monumental past, and immersing myself in the life of the caves. My goal is that, when you finish the tour with me, you take a little piece of the essence of this land in your heart.
